Welcome

Welcome to all our new January members and a continued “Hello” to all our current members. Thank you for choosing Spirit Health Club Stoke as your health club and we hope to keep you motivated to achieve your fitness goals.

We’re always here for a chat, be it gym based or not. You can book in for a Lifestyle Chat with a member of staff if you need to look at your goals or book in for a gym session to go over a new programme, were always here to give you that little extra push you may need.

Classes

Change is THE key factor to avoiding boredom and to stop your body getting used to doing the same thing over and over again. Why not add one of our many classes we have on offer to your routine;

  • Monday: Yoga 6.30-7.30pm
  • Wednesday: Aqua 9.30-10.30am, Pilates 6.30-7.30pm, Zumba 7.30-8.30pm
  • Thursday: Tummy Tone 6-6.30pm, Boxerobics 6.30-7.30pm, Pilates 7.30-8.30pm
  • Friday: Aqua 9.30-10.30am, Legs, Bums & Tums 6-7pm
  • Sunday: Karate 10-11am.

All are free to members except Zumba and Karate and you can bring friends and family along for £4 per class and £2 for Tummy Tone. Book in at reception today as places are limited.

Member of the Month

Farah Naeem is our Member of the Month this month, due to her great attendance. Farah has been a member since the end of October 2011 and has spent the last 3 months on top of the chart of the Top 10 attendance for females.

Congratulations Farah and keep up the hard work. Now come on ladies, let’s see if Farah gets the top spot in February…or will it be YOU? 

National Heart Month - 1st to 29th February 2012

National Heart Month is an annual campaign that is promoted and organised by the British Heart Foundation. The purpose of the campaign is to increase awareness of heart and circulatory disease, also to raise funds for British Heart Foundation research, prevention and care services.

BEAT encourages people to take steps to improve their own heart health.

  • Be Active
  • Eat Healthily
  • Avoid Smoking
  • Take a lifestyle check

If you are just getting started with fitness being part of your lifestyle, then follow these top tips:

  • Make exercise apart of your routine. Don’t stop and start when you feel you need to lose a little weight. Keep the routine going all year round.
  • Work out with your friends. Bring a friend along to the gym with you or sign up together. When you’re feeling a little less motivated your partner is there to pick you up and push you along, and they would expect the same back from you.
  • Go easy on yourself and set small targets you can tick off weekly when you have successfully reached them. Aiming too high will only bring disappointment if the target is not met.
  • Enjoy yourself and take part in group classes and get to know more people at the health club. You will make more friends and can workout together.
  • Track your progress by making a small chart and show yourself what you have accomplished.

Valentines Weekend Meal

Leap Year

Remember that it is a leap year this year, so we have February 29th which appears every four years, and do we know what happens on this day ladies? You can take a ‘leap’ of faith and propose to your partner! How about it single ladies? 

Exercise of the month

As it is February we will concentrate on those ‘love handles’ the Obliques. Obliques are a term referring to muscles on the side of the upper body that help to assist in turning the body from side to side. These are sometimes forgotten when looking at the Ab’s.
Some exercises you can complete are:

Side bends – Holding a free weight in each hand, lean to one side keep your hips and feet still hold for a second and stand upright. Repeat on the other side. 2 x 15/20.

Side Plank – Leaning on your forearm on one side, hold your body tight by squeezing your core. Hold for 30seconds to 1 minute and repeat.

Side Twists – Holding a weight with both hands, squat twisting to one side with the weight, then stand tall twisting the body and weight to the other side. 2 x 12/15.

Male – Ian Riddle is in 1st place for January with 27 days attendance. Rob Tabbanor is 2nd place with 24 days attendance and in 3rd place is Harvinder Singh with 18 days attendance..

Female – Farah Naeemis in 1st place this month with 27 days attendance throughout January. In 2nd place with 17 days attendance is Susan Wakefield-Morrey and in 3rd place with 14 days attendance is Julie Whieldon.

Top Ten Swimmers

Top of the board this month is Theresa Topping with 1405 lengths swam during January. Viv Baker-Evans is in 2nd place with 1185 lengths and in 3rd place with 950 lengths is Sue Booth. Congratulations to our other entries new and reoccurring.
